When we started making wire spice racks all those years ago, one of the things we did first was to ask our potential customers why they need spice racks at all. Surely you can just have your spices in a kitchen drawer?
But, lots of companies make them, so there’s obviously a good reason for them to exist, and by far the biggest reason was down to simply having simple access to the spices you want exactly when you want them.
Many people we spoke to said that they actually save them money, too.
The story (which is also from personal experience) goes like this:
You have a new recipe that you’ve watched on James Martin’s TV show and you decide you’re going to cook it. You look for the spices, just simple ones like oregano and thyme or something, and you’re convinced you’ve already got them, but they’re not at hand. So off you pop to the shops.
Next week you look for some more spices and find two jars of oregano, an out of date bottle of mixed spice and three jars of paprika in various stages of use.
Organisation is key
Having a spice rack is a revelation.
You can see when your spices are going out of date, when you need to replenish and when you need to throw away.
Wire spice racks are so easy to install, too. They just screw to the back of your kitchen doors, and all of your spices are there, ready for use.
Also, a wire spice rack helps to prolong the freshness of spices. When stored in a dark, cool environment, spices retain their flavour and potency for a longer duration.
By utilising a wire spice rack, spices can be stored in optimal conditions, thereby preserving their quality and flavour. This ensures that delicious, flavourful meals can be enjoyed consistently, without concerns about spices losing their potency.
Other uses for a wire spice rack
Don’t just use it for storing spices though – it can also be used in creative ways to enhance your cooking routine. If you make your own sauces and preserves, you can also use a wire rack to hold those.
And of course, the fact it’s made of wire makes it extremely handy for handing some of your most-used utensils from.
We wouldn’t recommend you hang anything too heavy from them, and remember, you’re taking up space in the cupboard, but it can be a boon for kitchen organisation, so make the most of it!
